Shanghai museums open night sessions

Several museums in Shanghai have introduced evening hours. Check out this guide to make the most of your visits.

01 Shanghai Museum

Open: 9 am – 9 pm (last entry at 7 pm), closed on Mondays (except national holidays)
Location: No 201 People's Avenue, Huangpu district
Capacity: An additional 3,000 visitors for each night session
Every Friday and Saturday in December, the Shanghai Museum on People's Square will extend its opening hours until 9 pm.
The largest of its kind in history, the On Top of the Pyramid: The Civilization of Ancient Egypt exhibition showcases cultural treasures from Egypt, with over 95 percent of the exhibits making their Asian debut.
The museum has an exhibition hall presenting ancient Egyptian civilization through virtual reality technology.

02 Museum of Art Pudong

Open: 10 am – 9 pm (last entry at 8 pm)
Location: No 2777 Binjiang Avenue, Pudong New Area
The Museum of Art Pudong is open year-round with evening sessions. It currently features three major exhibitions and a VR experience program.
The three exhibitions are Dialogues with Turner: Evoking the Sublime, El Anatsui: After the Red Moon, and the solo exhibition of artist Cao Fei, Tidal Flux. The museum's first virtual reality experience Monsieur Vincent allows participants to experience Van Gogh's world, the use of color, and masterpieces created in the final years of his life.

03 Long Museum

Open: From Nov 1 to March 31
Tuesday to Thursday, 10 am – 5:30 pm (last entry at 4:30 pm); Friday to Sunday, 10 am – 8 pm (last entry at 7 pm)
Location: No 3398 Longteng Avenue, Xuhui district
Every Friday to Sunday, the Long Museum extends its opening hours until 8 pm (last entry at 7 pm). The museum is currently hosting several major exhibitions: The Tenth Anniversary of The Long Museum, Light Within Ink: Portraits of Wu Guanzhong through Chua Soo Bin's Lens & Works by Wu Guanzhong, Wang Yuyang: Painting, Daniel Crews-Chubb: Immortality, and Keep Pace with the Times: Special Exhibition to Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China.

04 HOW Art Museum

Open: Tuesday to Sunday, 12 am – 8 pm
Location: Lane 1, No 2777 Zuchongzhi Road, Pudong New Area
The HOW Art Museum has extended its opening hours to 8 pm. It is currently holding four major exhibitions: Jiang Zhi: Please Play On, Cao Shu: Afterglow and Theremin, Shen Shaomin: Fish, Bird, and In Between: A Play in Three Acts and the significant exhibition of HOW AI plus digital art season Life after Life.
