TWINNING AGREEMENT SIGNED IN OCTOBER, 1985

Eindhoven is located in the Province of North Brabant, which is in the south of the Netherlands, 120 kilometers away from Amsterdam. Covering an area of around 64 square kilometers, it is the fifth largest city of the Netherlands, with a population of about 410,000. Eindhoven is an advanced science and technology center in Europe, topping the list of cities in the Netherlands in terms of sci-tech strength. The city places great emphasis on the development of modern information and communication technologies. Due to its position as a European technology hub, Eindhoven has strong links with multinational companies such as Philips and DSM, and it has been the base of Philips Electronics’ research and development facilities for more than a century. Nanjing and Eindhoven established sister-city relationship in October of 1985.
On the 20th anniversary of the establishment of sister-city relationship between the two cities in 2005, Eindhoven presented Nanjing with a Dutch Garden. The two cities have maintained friendly communication and carried out exchanges and cooperation in various fields. In June 2018, the Eindhoven GLOW Light Festival Organizing Committee and Qinhuai Lantern Company signed a memorandum of cooperation. In November of the same year, Qinhuai Lanterns landed during the Eindhoven GLOW Light Festival, which was warmly welcomed. In November 2019, Mr. Jorritsma, the Mayor of Eindhoven led a delegation to Nanjing, and attended the launching ceremony of the “Dutch High-Tech Project China Startup Soft Landing Pad Program”. In 2020, the construction of the “Chinese Pavilion” presented to Eindhoven by Nanjing has begun. After completion, the pavilion will become a window for promoting Nanjing culture and mutual exchanges with the Netherlands.
