The Longping Rice Park is located in Mingyue Village, Lukou Town, Changsha County. It served as a key base for late Academician Yuan Longping's research on hybrid rice during his lifetime and is an important platform where Academician Guan Chunyun annually hosts demonstrations of new canola varieties. The workstation of Academician Hu Peisong from the China National Rice Research Institute is also based here. The park has become a research and observation base for renowned domestic and international agricultural scientists to develop core technologies, key technologies, and common technologies, and commercialize technological innovation achievements.
As a key project of Changsha's "Seed Industry Valley," the Longping Rice Park was personally named by Academician Yuan Longping. It integrates the demonstration, evaluation, registration, and promotion of global rice technologies and new varieties; international exhibitions; science popularization; study tours; specialty homestays; and, cultural experiences.
The park brings together over 90 seed enterprises and 16 research institutions, including the Hunan Agricultural University, the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the National Hybrid Rice Engineering and Technology Research Center, and the Chinese Seed Association. Nearly 1,000 new technologies and varieties have been showcased at the park for three consecutive years, with more than 100 new varieties and technologies commercialized each year.
