Siem Reap Province
CAMBODIA
Located in the northwest of Cambodia, Siem Reap Province sits on the north shore of the Tonle Sap Lake and is 314 kilometers away from Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. It covers an area of about 10,000 square kilometers and has a population of about 1 million, with Siem Reap city as the provincial capital and the largest city in the province. Siem Reap boasts a rich tourism industry and a wide range of cultural relics. The famous Angkor ruins, listed by UNESCO as one of the seven wonders of the world, is located 6 kilometers north of Siem Reap city. In October 2016, Nanjing and Siem Reap Province established friendly cooperation ties. In May 2018, Nanjing and Siem Reap Province established sister-city relationship.
In recent years, Nanjing and Siem Reap Province have carried out extensive exchanges in personnel exchanges, tourism, culture and medical care. In August 2017, Nanjing sent a medical team to Siem Reap Province to provide free medical treatment. In July 2019, hosted by Nanjing Foreign Affairs Office and organized by Nanjing Xiaozhuang University, the first Protection and Utilization of Cultural Heritage Training Program was successfully held in Nanjing. Four cultural heritage protection professionals from Cambodia attended the program upon invitation.
