Introduction

Hunan University of Science & Technology (HNUST), which evolves from Northern Hunan Construction College founded in 1949, was established in 2003 by merging Xiangtan Institute of Technology and Xiangtan Normal University. Co-constructed by People’s Government of Hunan Province and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and by the People's Government of Hunan Province and the former State Administration of Work Safety, HNUST is among the “‘13th Five-Year Plan’ National Basic Capacity Building Project of Hundred Universities in Central and Western Regions”as well as the “Domestic First-Class Universities” of Hunan Province.

The campus covers an area of over 3,1 00 mu (207 hectares) with a building area amounting to 1,100,000 m² and boasts teaching and researching equipment worth approximately 620 million yuan and a library collection including both material and e-material of over 7.2 million volumes. Made up of 19 schools, the School of Graduate, Continuing Education, the International Education College and Xiaoxiang College (an independent college), HNUST offers 94 undergraduate programs in eleven disciplines, 2 disciplines including Engineering and Chemistry ranking ESI’s top 1% in the world, three post-doctoral research stations of First-Level Discipline, 5 First-Level disciplines for doctoral degrees, 30 First-Level disciplines offering master’s degree, 15 professional master's degree authorization programs, as well as the qualification for recommending excellent fresh graduates to pursue a master's degree without an examination and the recommending qualification for “Countryside Teachers with Master Degree Training Program”. It also provides 3 characteristic disciplines of national defense, 1 characteristic and advanced key discipline at the provincial level, 8 provincial key disciplines, 6 disciplines construction of “First-class universities and disciplines of the world” of Hunan Province, 8 national characteristic specialties, 17 provincial characteristic specialties and 1 experimental specialty of national comprehensive reform in specialties.
HNUST has 1,619 faculty members out of 2,552 employees, 338 of whom are full professors and 1,011 are doctorate holders. Among the outstanding faculty members are subject-matter experts of National 863 Program, leading talents in philosophy of the social science of “National High-level Personnel of Special Support Project”, talents of “The Four Fist-batch Talents Project”, national young and middle-aged experts with remarkable contributions, national candidates for “The New Century Talents Project”, national distinguished teachers, recipients of special government allowances of the State Council amounting to more than 21.

HNUST is the Ministry of Education undergraduate teaching level evaluation "excellent" universities, the Ministry of Education "excellent engineer education and training plan" of colleges and universities, China's first batch of innovation and entrepreneurship typical experience universities, the national graduates’ employment typical experienced colleges and universities, undergraduate enrollment in the first batch covering the whole country. As for now, HNUST enjoys a nationwide first-batch enrollment of over 29,106 full-time undergraduates, along with 3,283 post-graduates and 5,721 students of Xiaoxiang College. HNUST also hosts these resources to guarantee quality education: 1 national teaching team, 7 provincial teaching teams, 2 state-level demonstration centers for laboratory teaching, 1 state-level virtual simulation laboratory teaching center, 1 off-campus practice base sponsored by “Excellency Project” of Education Ministry of China, 77 province-level platform for practical teaching 3 first-class courses at the national level, 37 first-class courses at the national level, 74 excellent courses, key courses and high-quality courses at the provincial level. Since the beginning of the China’s 12th Five-Year Plan, HNUST has won 40 teaching achievement awards, 2 at the national level and 38 at the provincial level.
HUNST has possessed 37 innovation platforms for natural science at both national and provincial level and 12 for social science at the provincial level, and undertaken 741 national research projects funded by China’s 863 Program, 973 Program, National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Foundation and so on independently. The university has reaped 155 achievement awards in scientific research at both provincial and national level and 2,246 national patents and software copyrights, and promoted 125 new technologies. HNUST is home to two academic journals: Journal of Hunan University of Science and Technology (Natural Science Edition), Journal of Hunan University of Science and Technology (Social Sciences Edition), which are both included in A Guide of the Core Journal of China and the latter is listed in the widely-acclaimed Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI), the Core Journals of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences and the Top 100 National Social Science Journals. Moreover, the university has led the development of the "manatee" deep-sea multi-purpose drilling rig for a depth of 60 meters, which makes China’s deep-sea drilling rig technology rank among the first-class in the world.
HNUST has successively opened her door to the outside world. Up till now, the university has cooperated with around forty universities in over 10 countries and regions, such as the United States, Britain, Russia, Australia, Germany, Japan, Korea, as well as Taiwan of China, and has already enrolled international students from 24 countries and exchange students from Taiwan of China.

Campus Life
HNUST attaches importance to international academic exchange and cooperation. Up till now, the university has cooperated with over 40 universities including USA, UK, Australia, Japan, and over 15 universities in Taiwan. International students enrolled are from 24 different countries. Until now, the number of international students in HNUST is up to 200. Over the past three years, HNUST has recruited the high-end foreign experts for 6 patches and maintained over 10 foreign teachers constantly.

The school currently has 2,731 faculty members, of which 1,761 are full-time teachers, 337 hold senior professional titles, and approximately 69% are doctoral degree teachers. ►Fill in the “The Information Form of Family Members” and do physical examination at the local public hospital as requested. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Physical Examination Record for Foreigner. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months.

► A video interview or face-to-face interview will be held by International Education College for applicants whose documents are approved. 
► Admission result will be sent by email in the application system. 
► Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (Jw202) will be posted to applicants as soon as they are ready.
