Global call for Hangzhou Seekers!

July saw the publication in The Times and Daily Mail of striking photographs from Qiandao Lake, where silver carp, resembling meteoric silver, pierced the water's surface. This spectacle of splashing energy and leaping fish radiated an untamed, primal dynamism.

Those shots were captured by German master photographer Gunther Riehle during his time as a "Hangzhou Seeker."

His journey was part of the "Hangzhou, A Window to China's 5,000-year Civilization" journey in June 2025. Hangzhou invited ten international friends from Egypt, Türkiye, Spain, Italy, and Greece—all passionate about history and cultural exchange—to become the first Hangzhou Seekers.

Through friendship and action with our ten Seekers, stories of cultural exchange growing from Hangzhou are expanding and flowing outward to join the great tapestry of world civilization.

What is a Hangzhou Seeker?

We are not looking for tourists, but for " explorers " and " translators " who can delve deep into the city's fabric and use their expertise and passion to tell the world nuanced stories about Hangzhou. You could be a scholar, creator, educator, entrepreneur, or a "citizen expert" in any field.

We are looking for you, if you are:

Non-Chinese nationality; currently living in Hangzhou or maintaining active cooperation with Hangzhou.

Passionate about Chinese culture and willing to actively share Hangzhou’s stories (comfortable appearing on camera).

Willing to contribute professional expertise by co-organizing international exchange activities, offering advisory insights, or taking part in content creation.

An owner of active international social media accounts (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, X, etc.); priority will be given to those willing to co-create high-quality content.
