We are looking for a Head of EAL/Department of English for an International School based in Chengdu. This is a full-time position starting from the upcoming academic year in August 2025.

About the role
We are seeking a passionate and skilled English Teacher to assume the leadership role in the Department of English/EAL. The ideal candidate will inspire and guide a team of dedicated professionals, delivering exceptional teaching to students. They will play a crucial role in elevating the importance of English within the school, while fostering the growth and progress of English/EAL as a core subject in the curriculum. The successful applicants will actively contribute to shaping the College's vision and upholding its values. Your main responsibilities include:
Provide high-quality EAL teaching to students in Years 7-13, covering IGCSE, AS, and A level
Effectively manage classes, employing appropriate approaches to inspire, motivate, and challenge students
Utilize various observation, assessment, monitoring, and recording strategies to set ambitious learning objectives for students of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and dispositions
Maintain accurate records
Adhere to established communication policies within the school and effectively engage with parents when necessary
Contribute to the development and implementation of schemes of work, marking and assessment policies, and procedures in the relevant curriculum area
Be an integral member of the departmental team
Fully participate in the school community through teaching, supervisory duties, pastoral responsibilities, and co-curricular activities, including involvement in boarding life
Support the school's pastoral efforts by assuming the role of a Tutor
Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with a major in English and a recognized teaching qualification
Preferably, experience in teaching EAL students in an international or bilingual school
Experience in curriculum development and assessment
Experience in strategic leadership and teamwork
Minimum two years of experience as a Head of Department in the relevant subject area
