With a global network of suppliers we provide services for all aspects of international trading, including marketing, logistics, finance and after sales support.
I am looking to recruit a metals trader to be based in our Hangzhou office.


Job Profile:

To develop and drive forward procurement of Metals (Galvanised Steel, Tinplate / Aluminium / stainless steel/ Steel components). Initially from China however in future, to source similar products from neighbouring Asian countries.

The jobholder has a defined brief with specific performance targets identified in the annual metals plan. Additionally, the Division must be flexible in responding to business development opportunities.

The jobholder is responsible for managing trading contracts from initial contact to conclusion. They report to the China office manager in the first instance who is the first reference point in risk analysis. The jobholder has overall responsibility for every commercial aspect of the trading relationship. A proactive attitude is paramount, taking custody of the product as close to the point of production as is commercially practical. This will require frequent visits to mills, forwarders, port facilities and the customer base.

The emphasis is on teamwork. The jobholder must work closely colleagues from various regional offices to discuss requirements / share market information etc. The Trader should take an active role in the Division’s risk management procedure.

Whilst the focus is to source Metals, the company may ask the trader to get involved and learn about other raw materials company trades in such as Paper and Plastics.

Responsibilities

• To manage contracts through shipment and final outturn to ensure that Longulf’s obligations are fulfilled.

• To inform and advise the line manager and the London head office of opportunities to ensure that the Division’s strategy and forecasts are achieved.

• To liaise closely with regional offices. logistics, accounts and docs to ensure that they are clear upon what is required of them and that concerned parties work as a team to achieve the company’s overall objectives.

• To acquire knowledge and expertise in relevant geographies and products enabling Longulf to offer informed and timely market intelligence.

• To visit and build relations with suppliers to reinforce Longulf’s reputation in the market and to maintain high standards of supply and service to customers. Frequent travel within China and overseas markets will be required.

• To seek out and analyse potential suppliers with the express purpose of establishing sustained commitments on both sides.

• To commit accurate and relevant intelligence to the Division’s trading library and indexes. To participate in the Divisions continuous education and upgrading of information technology.

• To ensure each member of the Metal Division fulfils their commercial potential. To take an active interest in promoting their career development.


Qualifications:

Skills Requirements

• Minimum 7 years’ experience in the steel industry and knowledge of products and sectors. (sourcing of steel products experience preferred however not essential)
• Excellent presentation and communication skills
• Ability to communicate accessibly and concisely about product or service to outsiders, including prospective vendors / business partners in China and overseas markets.
• Effective organizational skills
• Negotiation skills
• Knowledge of Inco terms / export documentation / shipping.
• Lead generation and management experience
• Fast learner and able to work on its own initiative.
• Enthusiasm and sincerity
• Multilingual – basic English language skills requirement
• History of developing new relationships
