Tianjin Medical University (TMU) is a medical university second to none in China. It is aiming to become a world recognized research type medical institution, committed to cultivating medical expertise through high-quality educational programs.
TMU is located in the center of Tianjin, with one campus on Qixiangtai Road, and the other on Guangdong Road. Tianjin is one of the most important economic centers in the north of China, it is also an international port city to the southeast of Beijing, half an hour's train ride from Beijing. Established in 1951, TMU is a medical institution of higher education approved by the Chinese Government after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Its founder was Professor Xianyi ZHU, an internationally recognized endocrinologist. In the past 70 years, TMU has been dedicated to quality medical education, research and medical treatment. In 1996, TMU became the only local 211 Project university in Tianjin. In 2017, TMU was included in the World Wide First Class Discipline development universities.
With university hospitals included, TMU currently has 8668 professionals of various fields, including 709 professors and 1303 associate professors. There are two academicians of theChinese Academyof Engineering, an academician of the Chinese Academyof Science and an academician from overseas. A total of 10491 students (doing full time undergraduate study or above) are studying in the university, among them 5409 are undergraduates, 3457 are Master's students, 798 are Ph.D students, with 827 international students doing their degrees.
TMU has so far established cooperation with 96 universities and institutions from 24 countries and regions, and conferred honorary or visiting professorships upon 159 world famous medical experts of various fields, in a bid to further push TMU's internationalization forward. Seven of TMU's disciplines are in the top 1% in the ESI global ranking. TMU has eight directly subordinate hospitals and 18 non directly subordinate clinical schools. All of the above institutions provide TMU with abundant medical care and teaching resources, among which TMU General Hospital is the biggest comprehensive hospital, and TMU Cancer Hospital is a leading cancer research center in China. Also, TMU Chu Hsien-I Memorial Hospital is a hospital specializing in the research and treatment of endocrine and metabolic diseases.
