The Cotton Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) was established in Beijing in August 1957 and relocated to Anyang, Henan in March 1958.
As the only national professional comprehensive scientific research institution for cotton, The Cotton Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences focuses on application research and applied basic research, organizes and chairs major national cotton scientific research projects, focuses on solving major scientific and technological problems in cotton production, carries out international cotton scientific and technological cooperation and exchanges, cultivates cotton scientific and technological talents, promotes scientific research achievements and advanced cotton planting technology, edits and publishes Cotton Journal, China Cotton and Journal of Cotton Research professional journals.
At present, The Cotton Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has 12 national scientific research platforms, including the national key laboratory for cotton biological breeding and comprehensive utilization, the National Engineering Research Center for cotton flower biological breeding and industrial technology, the plant ecological environment safety inspection and testing center (Anyang) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and cotton quality inspection of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. 9 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms including the test center.
