The Primary EAL Teacher is responsible for supporting the English language development of students across a year level. This support may be in the mainstream classroom using an in class co-teaching model, it may be by withdrawing groups of students to target English language learning or it may be working with small groups within the mainstream classroom. As an active team member, the EAL teacher is expected to attend team meetings, share during team planning by suggesting appropriate differentiation and scaffolding to support the English language learning of students across all subject areas. The EAL teacher will work with the homeroom teacher to support the overall well-being of the students. This position requires time to be given to dealing with student issues and providing an effective contribution to the development of the student. In this role, your immediate manager is the Head of Year and any student concerns should be addressed to him or her. Curriculum support is through the Head of EAL.

• Lessons are suitably differentiated for levels of English, ability and learning styles

• Opportunities are made for children to develop skills in teamwork and collaborative learning.
• Technology is an integral part of learning activities
• Effort is made to make lessons enjoyable and relevant to the children
• Opportunities are made to promote intercultural understanding
• Classroom is organized, stimulating and attractive
• Students’ work is well displayed and changed regularly
• Students are encouraged to continue their learning independently
• Additional staff are included within planning and utilized efficiently
•Students’ progress is continuously assessed using a variety of methods
• Records of progress are maintained which can communicate success and development to students, parents and colleagues.
• School requirements for record keeping and assessment are completed punctually.
• Students’ success and next steps are communicated to them and their parents effectively.
• Monitoring the well-being of each child and recording any significant information
• Providing opportunities for children to discuss personal and social issues e.g. organization of class meetings / circle time.
Participation in the school’s teacher evaluation programme
• Participation in the school’s peer observation programme
• Seeking opportunities to extend expertise and keep abreast of current ideas
• Participation in in-service activities,external courses and conferences
• Support and promote the school and the IB mission statements
• Actively model the attributes of the IB learnerprofile
• Maintain co-operative, supportive professional relationships with the entire school community

• Encourage parental interest and involvement in the school and support UPTA events.

Qualifications:
• Two years relevant working experience at international school
• BA degree or above
