With the title "New Dimensions in Brain Science, A New Era of Quality Innovation", 2025 Purple Mountain Brain Science Summit was held on June 29 in Nanjing. Hosted by Nanjing Jinling Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, it brought together top experts from both China and abroad in the field of brain science to focus on cutting-edge topics, including the clinical exploration of fundamental brain research, precision diagnosis and treatment strategies for neurological disorders, and medical applications of brain-computer interface technologies.

The summit was attended by renowned experts and scholars from both China and abroad, including Professor Damianos Sakas, Honorary President of the European Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery; Professor Zhang Jianning, Former Chair of Chinese Neurosurgical Society; and Professor Hong Bo, Dean of Weixian College at Tsinghua University. The event was co-chaired by Professor Ma Chiyuan, Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Nanjing Jinling Hospital, the Affiliated Hospital of the Medical School of Nanjing University, and Professor Zhou Mengliang, Vice Chair of the same department.

At the opening ceremony, Jiangsu Province's first "Clinical Research Ward for Brain-Computer Interfaces" was officially inaugurated, marking a significant step forward in the Department of Neurosurgery at Nanjing Jinling Hospital in the research and clinical application of brain-computer interface technologies.
At the same time, the "Aeronautics and Astronautics Brain Science Research Center" was jointly established by Nanjing Jinling Hospital, the Affiliated Hospital of the Medical School of Nanjing University and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The center aims to leverage the complementary strengths of medicine and engineering to promote deep interdisciplinary integration and collaborative innovation in brain science within the field of aerospace.

During the academic forum, experts from China and abroad shared the latest research findings and cutting-edge technologies in the field of brain science. They also engaged in in-depth academic discussions on specialized topics such as the clinical application and practice of brain-computer interfaces, as well as the use of artificial intelligence in brain science data analysis. At the forum, Professor Ma Chiyuan delivered a keynote lecture titled "The Clinical Application of Brain-Computer Interfaces in Neurosurgery".

Professor Damien Coyle, Director of Bath Institute for the Augmented Human, delivered a keynote lecture titled "Wearable BCIs in Action for Rehabilitation, Assistance, and Diagnosis".
Professor Zhang Daoqiang, Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, delivered a keynote lecture titled "Intelligent Analysis of Brain Imaging and Its Applications in Disease Diagnosis".
The summit unfolded in a rigorous academic atmosphere, marked by passionate and inspiring exchanges. The unwavering commitment of experts and scholars to the advancement of brain science and neurosurgery was truly uplifting. At the closing ceremony, Professor Ma Chiyuan, Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at Nanjing Jinling Hospital and Chair of the Summit, stated that the successful convening of this summit not only showcased China's latest achievements and academic progress in brain science but also provided a vital platform for global exchange and collaboration in the field.
He emphasized that all parties should continue to strengthen cooperation, promote scientific innovation and the translation of research into clinical practice, and work together to address the challenges facing brain science — ultimately contributing to the improvement of global human health.
