The Xiamen Public Transport Group recenlly introduced a bus assistance system designed to provide assistance for passengers with visual impairment. The pilot program is being tested on more than 70 bus lines and over 1,000 buses. Line 24 is the program's demonstration line.
Passengers with visual impairments can set a boarding point via the “厦门公交”or“掌上公交” smartphone app, which provides real-time updates on bus arrivals. Upon the arrival of the passenger's desired bus, the system provides vibration and voice alerts while simultaneously broadcasting route information through external speakers.
