Regulations on Religious Activities in China

A foreign national entering China may bring a reasonable amount of printed religious materials, religious audio-visual products and other religious articles for personal use. Excess materials will be handled by China Customs according to applicable regulations. Printed religious materials and audio-visual products detrimental to China's public interests are barred from entering China.

A foreign national may take part in religious activities at a temple, monastery, mosque, church or other religious venues in China. At the invitation of a Chinese religious group at or above the level of province, autonomous region or municipality directly under the State Council, a foreign national may preach at a religious venue in China.

A foreigner group in China may conduct collective religious activities at a temple, monastery, mosque or church accredited by a government religious affairs department at or above the county level or at a venue designated by a government religious affairs department at or above the level of province, autonomous region or municipality directly under the State Council.
A foreign national engaged in religious activities in China should comply with Chinese laws and regulations and must not set up any religious organization, office, establishment or learning institution in China or recruit Chinese citizens as practitioners, appoint Chinese citizens for religious positions, or engage in any other conversion activities.
