Panda Tour Routes, the thematic tours aimed to promote the panda tourism and to celebrate the achievements in giant panda conservation, were released on November 26 at the Global Panda Partners 2024, an event held in Chengdu with the participation of panda experts, wildlife conservationists and foreign diplomats from the world.
Chengdu Research Baseof Giant Panda Breeding
The Panda Base is the leading institution in the world engaged in the conservation of giant panda habitats, research of giant panda breeding, tourism and public education. Located in northern urban Chengdu, it is home to over 200 giant pandas living in captivity.
Kuanzhai Alleys
A community of old-fashioned lanes and residences consisting mainly of three alleys paved with bluestones, namely the Kuan Alley, Zhai Alley and Jing Alley, and over 70 living compounds. Nicknamed as the Guesthouse of Chengdu, the site boasts architecture and atmosphere that call for the reminiscence of the typical life of the Old Chengdu and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city. Visitors can find icons of the giant panda everywhere at the site, where people can drink the Kungfu Panda Tea, dine at the Golden Panda Restaurant, or collect postmarks of the giant pandas at the nearby Panda Post.

Yangtianwo Panda Square
At the square in Dujiangyan City in northern Chengdu, you can see an installation featuring a panda cub lying on her back and taking a selfie of herself. The structure is designed by Florentijn Hofman, a renowned designer from the Netherlands. Dujiangyan City is also famous for the Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, a UNESCO world heritage and arguably the greatest water project in the world.
Panda Valley
The site, also in Dujiangyan City, occupies an area of more than 133 hectares, is nestled in the bordering areas of Chengdu Plain and the mountains in western Sichuan, which boasts an ecological environment similar to the wild habitats of the giant panda.
Mount Qingcheng
It is one of the birthplaces of Taoism, China’s indigenous religion that emphasizes balanced life and the harmonious coexistence of human and nature. The site was chosen as the shooting spot of the film Kungfu Panda III.
Shenshuping giant panda baseof Wolong National Nature Reserve
The panda base has an area of 150 hectares in the mountainous areas with an average altitude of 1, 700 meters. It boasts a perfect ecological environment and lush vegetation, providing favorable conditions for the life of the giant panda. It is home to a large group of captive giant pandas.
