Sixth China Opera Festival to Open in Xiamen in September

The Sixth China Opera Festival will be held from September 15 to 30 in Xiamen (main venue) and Fuzhou (sub-venue), Fujian Province, with 16 outstanding opera works to be staged, showcasing the fruitful achievements of China's opera art creation in recent years, a reporter learned from a press conference.

The festival is hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the People's Government of Fujian Province, and organized by the Xiamen Municipal People's Government, the Department of Art of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Fujian Province, and the China Opera Research Association. The event comprises five major sections: the opening and closing ceremonies, performances of outstanding operas, thematic seminars and exchanges, opera art popularization and public benefit activities, and a training workshop for opera creative talents. The repertoires cover revolutionary history, literary classics, regional culture, realism, and world classics, presenting a vibrant picture of diversified development in contemporary Chinese opera creation.

The festival fully implements the policy of culture for the people, with an 80-yuan benefit ticket available for every performance. It also actively explores the "ticket stub economy" linkage model, under which audience members can generate an exclusive benefit code with their performance ticket stubs during the festival to enjoy consumption discounts at over 300 partner merchants in Xiamen. The festival also actively explores digital communication means, with some key productions to be live-streamed in high definition via online platforms. Public cultural awareness activities will be rolled out successively, including "Opera on Campus" and cross-border concerts such as "Nanyin Encounters Opera," while opera-themed flash mobs and art popularization events will be held at schools and theaters to create an immersive opera cultural atmosphere.

The festival also introduces two special caring measures: first, Taiwanese compatriots holding the Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents are entitled to a 50% discount on tickets for any performance (excluding the 80-yuan benefit tickets); second, in September, those holding the Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents and ticket stubs from the Mawei–Matsu Route or Xiamen–Kinmen Route ferry services can receive one complimentary ticket valued at no less than 180 yuan (limited to one per person, while stocks last).
