In March, when Wuhan is blanketed in snow-like cherry blossoms and hosts the energetic Wuhan Marathon, the city embraces its most beautiful season. Against this backdrop, the Foreign Affairs Office of Wuhan Municipal People's Government officially rolled out on March 19 its first English brochure of Guide for Foreign Residents and Visitors in Wuhan.
“This brochure is packed with useful information. It even includes a subway map. I can travel around Wuhan easily just with this!” said Quinn Gardner-Hall, a New Zealand university student who had just arrived in Wuhan on the morning of March 19, looking delighted as he flipped through the English folded guide. Covering everything from entry procedures and directions to mobile payment, dining, shopping, medical services and housekeeping, the brochure addresses all essential needs of foreigners upon their arrival in Wuhan. Adorned with cute hand-drawn maps and featuring practical, authoritative information, it serves as an all-in-one handbook for a smooth start to life in Wuhan.

At Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, the contestants from Canterbury University in New Zealand were holding the "A GUIDE TO WUHAN FOR EXPATS".

The contestant from the University of São Paulo in Brazil was flipping through the English brochure of " A GUIDE TO WUHAN FOR EXPATS".

Isabella from the University of Turin in Italy was carefully studying the English brochure.
Recently, "Becoming Chinese" has become a trending topic on overseas social media platforms. Instead of sticking to check-in-style travel, more and more foreign visitors hope to integrate into local life in a real sense. With its charming spring scenery in March, Wuhan serves as an ideal gateway for an immersive experience of China. According to incomplete statistics, tourists from more than 60 countries and regions around the world have booked hotel accommodations in Wuhan this March, flocking to the city, which is a top destination in the world for cherry blossom viewing. Riding on the popularity boosted by cherry blossoms and the Wuhan Marathon, Wuhan has offered thoughtful support through a dedicated guide. It gives clear, straightforward guidance on practical matters, ranging from mobile payment at airports and travel routes along the East Lake Greenway, to finding English-speaking housekeeping services, helping foreign visitors settle in with ease.

Front cover of the brochure
The beauty of this brochure lies in that it is not a cold, procedural handbook, but a thoughtful, all-round lifestyle guide tailored for foreigners in Wuhan, covering dining, entertainment, travel, shopping and medical services. It introduces hidden gems across the city: indoor skiing on the rooftop of Wushang Dream Times, tax refund services available at Wuhan SKP, and the blended architectural styles featured at Gude Temple. It also includes local favorites such as the annual Wuhan River Crossing Festival, a beloved summer tradition among Wuhan residents. Instead of merely telling people how to get by, the guide shows them how to live well — and that is exactly the most touching part of “Becoming Chinese”.

Back of the brochure
Ultimately, this brochure is intended not only for foreign visitors, but also serves as an invitation letter from Wuhan to the world. It sends a message to every guest coming from afar: you do not have to figure everything out on your own, for we will walk with you as you get to know the city step by step. From the moment you arrive at the airport to every ordinary day that follows, Wuhan is embracing greater openness and hospitality in a pragmatic yet heartfelt way, striving to become more like a home to all. This, perhaps, lies at the very core of building an international exchange center.
