Guide to choose the internet service

Jan 17, 2024

Free Wi-Fi is available at most public places such as train stations, coffee shops, and convenience stores.

Getting internet for your home in China is easy as well. You first need to know what speeds you need (both download and upload), how much you will actually be paying each month and what type of equipment you need to either rent or buy.

Then you will need to choose from one of the three major broadband providers: China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile. All you need to do is to explore their available packages online or visiting their service counters. When signing up for the service, make sure to bring your passport for identification purposes.

You can also request a Chinese-speaking friend to call the provider's office and schedule a visit to your home. Prices for broadband internet depend on its speed, the duration of your contract, and so on.
