The approval results for Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run schools and programs announced by the Ministry of Education of China show that a group of joint education institutions applied for by Sichuan universities have been approved.
The list of approved institutions includes:
· Russian Geo-Energy Institute of Southwest Petroleum University
· Patras College of Sichuan Agricultural University
· Chester School of Sichuan University of Science and Engineering
· SUMC-NYFA Joint School
Russian Geo-Energy Institute of Southwest Petroleum University
The institute is a result of the cooperation between Southwest Petroleum University (SWPU) and Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting (MGRI). It offers programs in Petroleum Engineering and Geology.
The institute’s admissions will be included in the National Enrollment Plan for Regular Higher Education Institutions. Students will be admitted through the National College Entrance Examination, also known as the gaokao. Upon the successful completion of their four-year study, students will receive an undergraduate diploma and a bachelor’s degree certificate from SWPU, as well as a bachelor’s degree certificate from MGRI identical to those awarded to local students. The planned annual intake is 70 students per program, totaling 140 students across the institute’s two programs. With all four undergraduate years in operation, the institute’s total student capacity will be 560.
Patras College of Sichuan Agricultural University
The college is a joint education institution run by Sichuan Agricultural University and the University of Patras of Greece.
The college offers two distinctive programs, Aquaculture and Environmental Ecological Engineering, for undergraduates, and a master’s program in Environmental Science and Engineering. The core curriculum will be delivered by outstanding faculty from both universities with bilingual or English-only instruction. High-quality teaching materials from the Greek partner will be introduced accordingly.
The college plans to commence admission in 2026 as part of the National Enrollment Plan for Regular Higher Education Institutions in accordance with national regulations. The total planned student capacity is 860. The annual enrollment targets are set at 200 students for undergraduate programs and 20 students for master’s programs.
Chester School of Sichuan University of Science and Engineering
The school is cooperatively run by Sichuan University of Science and Engineering (SUSE) and the University of Chester (UC) of the UK as a non-independent legal entity.
The school offers four undergraduate programs for its first intake—Electrical Engineering and Automation, Mechanical Design & Manufacturing and Automation, Computer Science and Technology, and Chemical Engineering and Techniques. Upon the successful completion of their four-year study, students who meet the graduation and degree requirements of both universities will receive an undergraduate graduation certificate and a bachelor’s degree certificate from SUSE, as well as a bachelor’s degree with honors from the UC.
SUMC-NYFA Joint School
The school is cooperatively run by Sichuan University of Media and Communications (SUMC) and New York Film Academy (NYFA) as a non-independent legal entity.
Focusing on digital and intelligent cultural creativity, the newly established school will offer three undergraduate programs for its first intake—Digital Media Arts, Digital Media Technology, and Music Performance.
The school’s total planned student capacity is 1,200. The annual enrollment targets are set at 100 students for Digital Media Technology, 120 students for Digital Media Arts, and 80 students for Music Performance.
