Q&A on Residence and Stay Policies for Internships

Dec 05, 2024

Q: As a foreign student who comes from an overseas university, I am planning to have my internship in China. Can you tell me if China has any favorable residence and stay policies for people like me?

A: Overseas students from foreign colleges who have received invitations from renowned enterprises and public institutions in China to have internship in the country can apply for a one-year visa (to be identified with the mark of “for internship only”) from local exit-entry administrations upon showing the documents from the inviting parties and certificate of enrollment in a higher education institution. Overseas students from foreign colleges on the exchange programs between the governments of China and foreign countries to have internship in China can apply for residence permits according to relevant laws and regulations.

At present, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) has put into effect more open and convenient trial policies and measures on immigration management in key regions of development in China, which provide more favorable residence and exit-entry conditions for exceptional foreign youth. You can make inquiries on this issue at local exit-entry administrations and have more information by contacting the 12367 service platform, or making inquiries via NIA 12367 APP, mini programs and the official website of NIA.
