Check This Guide for 31st Beijing International Book Fair

Jun 18, 2025

The 31st Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) opened on June 18 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing and will last until June 22.

This year's BIBF featured over 1,700 exhibitors from 80 countries and regions, featuring 220,000 premium Chinese and foreign book titles. Nine additional countries — Bangladesh, Belarus, Chile, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Jamaica, Kenya and Oman — joined the 2025 edition. As the Country of Honor for this edition, Malaysia will launch a session for copyright exchanges with China, reading promotion activities and other activities. Achievements of mutual translation by China and Malaysia as well as distinctive publications and other cultural products from Malaysia will also be presented throughout the fair.

This year's BIBF underlines the improvement of digital exhibition standards and will actively develop new business formats and modes for the cultural industry. The Online Publishing Zone houses outstanding products from emerging publishing sectors such as online literature and games, highlighting the application achievements of new quality productive forces, including those concerning big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, in the publishing industry.

Meanwhile, the newly established Online Literature Exhibition Zone pools online writers' resources to comprehensively and multidimensionally present the multifaceted charm and contemporary significance of online literature through diverse formats including published books, short videos, and creative cultural merchandise.

A new zone has been set up for the copyrighted works based on the traditional cultural stories of China, presenting works including "Black Myth: Wukong" and those based on the stories of Nezha, Investiture of the Gods, Dunhuang and more. The new zone is aimed at promoting the integration of quality publications with film/TV productions, animated works, and games to facilitate the promotion of the fine traditional Chinese culture through multiple channels.

The segment for authors has also been improved this year. Specifically, the brand-new "Author Focus" brand activity series has been launched. Prominent literary figures will participate in various activities including forums, book signings, dialogues, and new book launches during the fair. The participating guests include renowned Chinese writers including Li Jingze, Liu Zhenyun, Mai Jia, Zhao Lihong, etc., as well as over 100 foreign luminaries like Li Zishu (Malaysian Chinese writer), Shinobu Yoshii (Japanese writer), Manuel Vilas (Spanish writer), and Ragnar Baldursson (Icelandic sinologist).
