Lancang-Mekong visa issued; mutual visa-free with the Solomons

Chinese Premier Li Qiang attended the eighth Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit on Thursday, calling on the six GMS members to upgrade their cooperation after a productive partnership spanning three decades since the establishment of the mechanism.

The summit, slated from Nov. 6 to 7 in Kunming, capital city of Yunnan Province in southwest China, brought together leaders from Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as president of the Asian Development Bank.Li announced that China has decided to issue "Lancang-Mekong visas" to the five Mekong countries and issue five-year multiple-entry visas to qualified business people.

China and the Solomon Islands have signed an agreement to waive visa requirements for each other's citizens, according to the Chinese Embassy in the Solomon Islands on Thursday.
