Inaugural Chengdu-Xiamen Silk Road Maritime freight train launched

Mar 12, 2026

Xiamen

On March 5, the first Chengdu-Xiamen "Silk Road Maritime" rail-sea intermodal train departed from Chengdu, Sichuan, signifying a new international logistics corridor connecting to global markets from Chengdu International Railway Port. Carrying mechanical products, agricultural goods, and auto parts, the train originated at Chengdu Chengxiang Station, traveled directly by rail to Xiamen Qianchang Station, transferred to international vessels at Xiamen Port, and proceeded by sea to Southeast Asian destinations including Vietnam and Thailand. This seamless integration of rail transport, port transshipment, and international shipping cuts transit time to just seven days while reducing logistics costs by approximately 15%. The launch strengthens synergy between western China's inland opening hub and southeastern coastal shipping gateways, significantly enhancing the international market accessibility and global competitiveness of cargo from Sichuan and surrounding regions.
