Manila Xiamen International School (MXIS) was founded in 1993 as the first international school in Xiamen. Approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, Xiamen Municipal People's Government, Xiamen Education Commission, and strictly evaluated by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) – an international education accreditation body – it has become a member of the World School community.

In view of the school's outstanding contributions, the Xiamen Municipal Government awarded Mr Go, Chairman of the School, the title of "Honorary Citizen of Xiamen"; the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of the People's Republic of China presented the "Friendship Award for Foreign Experts" to Principal Wu Meide; Mr. Celso Jalac, Academic Director, and Ms. Eve Denise Africa Coronel, Center Director, won the "Egret Friendship Award" for foreign experts in Xiamen.
