As April's breezes usher out the last lingering cherry blossoms, Yuyuantan Park's wisteria flowers and irises have taken center stage with vibrant hues.
Wisteria flowers cascade in violet, making spring's grand finale, while irises, with their butterfly-winged petals, signal the season's epilogue. Together, they create the lingering romance of late spring.
At the Science Square in the park's northwest area, visitors can marvel at a breathtaking scene: lush foliage intertwines with purple blossoms cascading downward like waterfalls of flowers.
Yuyuantan Park began introducing Japanese wisteria (Wisteria floribunda) in the spring of 2018 and now houses a rich collection of over 200 plants of 15 varieties. They are primarily located in the Science Squarein the northwest, the Yuyuan Chunqiu scenic area in the southeast, and the Yingluo Flower Valley scenic area in the south.
Additionally, the park has cultivated expansive beds of irises in the Wisteria Square. The blooming periods of irises not only overlap with that of wisteria but also seamlessly extend the floral display period. Beneath the wisteria pergola, visitors can find over 5,000 irises across 10 varieties. This year, the wisteria blossoms will grace the park until late April, while the irises are expected to flourish through late May. Now is the prime time for admiring these flowers.
