Chengdu to Launch and Increase International Flights

Oct 10, 2026

Chengdu

Starting October 25, China’s civil aviation industry will switch to the winter and spring flight schedule, under which Chengdu plans to launch new international air routes and add more international flights.

Starting October 26, Russia’s S7 Airlines will launch a direct air route from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport to Novosibirsk. Two flights will be operated per week using Airbus A320 aircraft, with the outbound flights scheduled for Tuesdays and Fridays. The flight from Chengdu to Tolmachevo Airport in Novosibirsk will take only about five hours.

Starting November 11, Turkish Airlines will launch a direct passenger air route from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport to Istanbul, the largest city in Türkiye, operating three flights per week. The outbound flights will be operated every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, with a scheduled flight duration of approximately 10 hours. Currently, Sichuan Airlines operates direct flights from Chengdu to Istanbul. With the addition of Turkish Airlines’ own Chengdu flights next month, the number of direct flights from Chengdu to Istanbul will rise to 7–10 per week. This is expected to make daily direct flights possible, with up to two direct flights a day at peak times.

Since the beginning of this year, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport has launched or increased flights on 14 international and regional routes, including services to Brussels, Busan, and Istanbul. More new routes and increased flights to Yangon, London, and other destinations are planned before the end of this year.

Chengdu now operates 87 regular international and regional direct passenger and cargo air routes, of which 61 are passenger routes. Its air network now covers five continents, ranking fourth in the Chinese mainland and first in central and western China by the number of air routes. During the first eight months this year, Chengdu International Aviation Hub achieved an international and regional passenger throughput of 4.681 million trips and cargo and mail throughput of 342,000 tonnes, up 11.1% and 6.7% year-on-year respectively.
