Shanghai, 1943. The last private letter between novelist Jin Haiming, who just passed away, and female writer Xia Guang is about to be published. The publisher Li Ling, however, has been taken into custody by Japanese military police. Zheng Weinan, who adores Jin, finds Li Ling. The two begins to recall the mysterious past of Xia.
