Oct 11, 2025

Chengdu

The Mid-Autumn Festival, with its thousands of years of history, has evolved through generations. It embodies the profundity of fine traditional Chinese culture. On the eve of this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, foreign nationals immersed themselves in the cultural charm of China’s Mid-Autumn Festival in Chengdu.

Bálint Czégel, Consul General of Hungary in Chongqing, visited Dujiangyan City and embarked on a special Mid-Autumn Festival journey that integrated cultural profundity and interactive experiences. Jinniu District, Pidu District, Wenjiang District, and Xinjin District held a variety of activities for foreign nationals in the local communities to experience traditional Chinese culture. These activities allowed foreign nationals to feel the warmth and inclusiveness of their “home in Chengdu”.

Dujiangyan City

On the eve of the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival, Bálint Czégel, Consul General of Hungary in Chongqing, visited Dujiangyan City, where he immersed himself in traditional Mid-Autumn culture of China.

Jinniu District

On the eve of the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival, the “Home in Chengdu” 2025 Extraordinary Jinniu—Celebrity and Master Exchange and Exhibition Event successfully concluded at the College of Chinese & ASEAN Arts (Fenghuangshan Campus). Jointly hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Jinniu District and the Jinniu District Bureau of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the event featured two experience activities highlighting two intangible cultural heritage items—Peking opera and Sichuan-style marionette. Through expert lectures, hands-on practice, and creative demonstration, the event provided over 100 Chinese and international participants with an immersive experience of intangible cultural heritage.

In recent years, Jinniu District has enhanced its implementation of the “Home in Chengdu” program for foreign nationals. By cultivating the fertile ground of local culture and skillfully incorporating historical and modern “Jinniu elements” into various activities and scenarios, the district has built a welcoming platform for foreign nationals in Chengdu to experience the Shu culture.

Pidu District

On the eve of the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival, the “Home in Chengdu”—the Full Moon Shines over Pidu and Affections Gather for Mid-Autumn Festival Event was held at the Anjing Shu Embroidery Cultural Creative Park in Pidu District, where over 60 foreign nationals participated with great enthusiasm.

During the event, the foreign nationals engaged wholeheartedly: after signing in, they eagerly captured moments at the photo zone; they actively tried chuiwan, a traditional ball game, their laughter filling the air; during the handmade lantern session, they carefully assembled their creations, weaving Mid-Autumn blessings into their designs; the mooncake blind box draw became a highlight, as participants unveiled their surprises with anticipation and joy. Additionally, the event featured an exceptional gaiwan tea (tea served in lidded bowls) demonstration, immersing participants in the art of “Chinese kung fu tea”. By trying their hands at making traditional Chinese knots and experiencing firsthand the beauty of Shu embroidery, an intangible cultural heritage item, the participants deeply immersed themselves in the charm of traditional Chinese culture.

Xinjin District

To better implement the “Home in Chengdu” program for foreign nationals, the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Xinjin District, in collaboration with the Community Service Center for Foreign Nationals of Liuhe Community, held the “Full Moon Shines over the Mid-Autumn Festival and Bonds Woven at the Market” Cultural Experience Event at Huayuanli on the eve of the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival. Both Chinese and foreign residents were invited to participate in the event. Through a variety of traditional folk experiences, the event allowed foreign nationals to immerse themselves in the cultural charm of the traditional Chinese festival.

The event featured various interactive sessions, including Hanfu photo opportunities, pitch-pot games, couplet writing, and mooncake tasting. It not only enhanced the cultural engagement of Chinese and foreign community residents but also established a platform for foreign nationals to better understand Chinese traditions and integrate themselves into the local community. Participants expressed that they have gained a deeper understanding of the Mid-Autumn Festival culture through their firsthand experiences and felt the warmth and inclusiveness of their “home in Chengdu”.

Wenjiang District

On the occasion of the 2025 Mid-Autumn Festival, the “Meet in Wenjiang: Mid-Autumn Festival, Gather in Wenjiang” Event, jointly hosted by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Wenjiang District, the Media Convergence Center of Wenjiang District, and the Exit and Entry Administration Unit of the Wenjiang District Branch of Chengdu Municipal Public Security Bureau, was held at the Chengyuan Painting and Calligraphy Art Museum. This marked the fifth event organized this year by the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Wenjiang District under its “Meet in Wenjiang” initiative.

“The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional holiday symbolizing reunion. The event invited Chinese and foreign nationals studying, working, and living in Wenjiang to gather together. It aimed to deepen cultural exchanges and help everyone better understand and ultimately fall in love with Wenjiang through the bond of the festival.” The Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Wenjiang District emphasized that it will establish more platforms for mutual exchanges to continuously enrich and expand the cultural significance and coverage of the “Wenjiang, A Warm Family” initiative and the “Home in Chengdu” program through its “Meet in Wenjiang” foreign affairs initiative, thereby enhancing the sense of belonging and happiness among both Chinese and foreign residents.
