Step into thousand-year-old Wuyue Kingdom at new museum

Jan 31, 2026

Hangzhou

On January 28, the Yijin City Ruins Museum officially opened, unveiling the ancient city of the Wuyue Kingdom during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. Located at No. 69 Chengzhong Street, Lin’an, the museum is the core part of the Yijin City Archaeological Park. Built on the original site, it allows history spanning a thousand years to come alive before your eyes.

Covering a total exhibition area of 6,500 square meters, the Yijin City Ruins Museum is divided into the Central Hall and South Hall, with the exhibition theme “A Millennium Legacy, Yijin City Reimagined.” It comprehensively presents the functions of “city” within the Wuyue Kingdom’s “City–Tomb–Temple” system. Through the display of courtyard foundations, city gates, wells, and drainage systems, visitors can trace the construction history of various prefectures and counties under the Wuyue Kingdom’s “One Army and Thirteen Prefectures” framework and appreciate the kingdom’s integration of mountains, water, and urban planning.

Wuyue-style Market
The Wuyue-style Market is in full swing as well. When the thousand-year-old Wu Yue culture meets the energy of a modern market, and ancient ruins meet lively experiences, a cross-time cultural feast awaits you.

Step inside, you can put on traditional costumes, and become part of the scene: test your strength at “King Qian Shoots the Tide,” aim in the “Blossoms on the Road” ring toss, or solve riddles at the “Yijin Lantern Riddles.”
What's more, soft Mochi, Tofu and juicy Chaoshan beef balls are among the local delicacies you may savor. And daily historical NPCs—Fan Li and Xi Shi, tea master Lu Yu, and the immortal poet Li Bai—will appear for unexpected encounters.
