Fifteen years ago, Tommy from the United States set foot on Hainan Island for the first time and decided to stay. Starting with a simple local phrase, “he lao ba cha” (have some Old Dad's Tea), he began capturing the island’s vibrant daily life, from sea breezes and coconut groves to everyday street scenes. Over the years, he has also documented major events such as the China International Consumer Products Expo and the Boao Forum for Asia. Some of his videos have received more than ten million views, becoming a window through which the world experiences the energy of Hainan’s Free Trade Port.
Today, to this overseas communication officer, the letter “H” in Hainan carries a deeper meaning. Through his story, we see how one man transformed a distant island into a place he proudly calls home.
