Guangzhou's Baiyun District is gearing up for a spectacular series of Fire Dragon Dance performances

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, Guangzhou's Baiyun District is gearing up for a spectacular series of Fire Dragon Dance performances, which people believe can burn away evil spirits and bring good fortune. Here's a preview of upcoming performances.


Jun He Street (均禾街)


Fire Dragon Folk Culture Festival
Time: September 12-22
Location: Pinghe Daya Square, near Baiyun District Folk Culture Museum 
Highlights:
September 12-13: Fireworks show at 8 PM and 9 PM; Flying Fire Phoenix performances at 8:40 PM and 9:40 PM.

September 14-16: Traditional "fire pot," fire knife, and fire stick performances at 8 PM and 9 PM.

September 17 (Mid-Autumn Festival): Fire Dragon Dance, followed by a dazzling light show.

Authentic Fire Dragon ceremonies
Time: Evening of September 17

Locations: Qinghu Village, Shima Village, Luogang Village, Pingsha Village, Pinghe Daya Plaza

Unique fire dragon rituals will take place across various villages, such as dragon awakening ceremonies, water blessings, dragon parades, and vibrant fire dragon dances. Junhe Sub-district will feature multiple fire dragon teams performing in Qinghu Village, Pinghe Plaza, and Wangfa Street.

Jianggao Town (江高镇)

Jiangcun Village's 9th Fire Dragon Festival
Time: Evening of September 17
Location: The Square in front of the Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall in Jiangcun Village
Approximately 20 "fire dragons" of different sizes will participate in Jiangcun's celebration, starting with the dragon's water-blessing ceremony. The dragons will circle the square, dancing joyously to pray for good weather, health, and family reunions.

Baiyun Lake Street (白云湖街)

2024 Xiamao Mid-Autumn Fire Dragon Dance event
Date: Evening of September 17

Location: Xiamao Pak Tai Temple, Party Culture Square

Xiamao Village will host a grand fire dragon event with over 10 dragons from five different areas. On the morning and afternoon of the Mid-Autumn Festival, fire dragon-making booths will also be set up for visitors to try their skills.
