Here comes the good news: The new Shanghai Airport Link Line is set to commence operations by the end of this year. When completed, the line will slash travel time between Shanghai Hongqiao and Pudong airports to approximately 40 minutes, marking a faster way to travel from Suzhou to Pudong Airport.
The 68.6-kilometer metro line boasts nine stations: Hongqiao Terminal 2, Zhongchun Road, Jinghong Road, Sanlin South, Kangqiao East, Shanghai International Tourism & Resorts Zone, Pudong Airport Terminals 1 and 2, Pudong Airport Terminal 3, and Shanghai East Railway Station, among which six are underground stations and three are built above the ground.
Currently, the main structure of seven stations has been completed. Track-laying has been completed on the 59-kilometer section of the line. While the line's joint debugging has been almost completed, the upgrading and construction of landscape is currently underway. During the joint debugging and test runs without passengers on board, all test results met relevant operational requirements. Besides, the operation team of the line has been formed.

Upon completion, the airport connection line will improve transportation efficiency between Hongqiao and Pudong airports. It will slash travel time between the two airports to about 40 minutes from the current 90 minutes by Metro Line 2. The line will further improve the impacts of the two airports as integrated transportation hubs on the Yangtze River Delta region, and offer better services to urban clusters in the region.
