May 09, 2025

Shanghai

Experience a cultural journey at the Rockbund Art Museum, now offering free admission to all its exhibitions. Nestled inside the former Royal Asiatic Society building, this museum is a must-visit for art enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

A glimpse into history

The Royal Asiatic Society building on Huqiu Road, built in 1874, is a testament to Shanghai's rich cultural heritage. One of China's oldest museums, its significance was so profound that Huqiu Road was temporarily renamed "Museum Road". The building's current design, a masterpiece by British architect George Wilson, was completed in 1932.

Celebrating 15 years of art

In 2010, the Rockbund Art Museum found its home in this iconic building. This May marks the 15th anniversary of its residence, and to commemorate this milestone, the museum is hosting three solo exhibitions across six floors.
Visitors can enjoy Nula by Irena Haiduk, Lanterns from the Unreturned by Cici Wu, and A Crack in the Shape of Light Getting In by Ash Moniz, all offering free admission.
