Ecological Living Environment
Known as the “Garden on the Sea,” Xiamen is a renowned international tourist city. The city enjoys a pleasant climate with an average annual temperature of 21.6°C. With over 200 parks and a green coverage rate of 44.32% in its built-up areas, Xiamen provides ample opportunities to connect with nature. Residents enjoy a generous per capita park green area of 14.81 square meters. In 2024, Xiamen achieved a remarkable air quality ranking, placing third among 168 key cities nationwide with a comprehensive air quality index of 2.34 and an air quality excellence rate of 99.5%, tied for first in the province. Xiamen’s commitment to environmental protection has earned it the title of “Charming City of Biodiversity.” Furthermore, seven of its best practices including ecological civilization building, sea discharge outlet remediation, and low-value waste recycling, have been promoted nationwide. Three local initiatives, including the Yundang Lake restoration project and Junying Village’s innovative “cap the mountains, develop the foothills” approach, have been included in the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization Practice Library. The successful ecological restoration of the southeastern sea bay has been featured in training materials, and Tong’an Bay has been recognized as a national model for beautiful bay restoration.
