Ten places to experience Shanghai by night

Shanghai has unveiled 10 destinations that highlight the city's vibrant and diverse nightlife, from Shikumen neighborhoods and waterfront vistas to night markets, historic streets, and cultural venues. Here is the full list.

Xintiandi-Taiping Lake

The area combines Shikumen architecture with a relaxed, pedestrian-friendly nightlife experience. It features open-air seating throughout the Shikumen neighborhoods, as well as the panoramic canopy and terrace spaces at Xintiandi Dongtaili, complemented by themed installations and interactive exhibits.

Visitors can also enjoy theater productions, musicals, jazz performances, and open-mic events. Pop-up events such as Xintiandi Restaurant Week, World Cup screenings, and sailing club activities combine dining, live sports viewing, and interactive experiences with merchant promotions and discounts.

Wujiang Road-Fengshengli

The area is positioned as a showcase of Shanghai-style nightlife. It brings together art corridors, lighting installations, cultural performances, and interactive activities set within traditional lanes, creating an immersive night-tour experience.

During the World Cup, dedicated viewing areas will offer screenings of major matches, along with soccer-themed food and drink events. Additional activities include late-night radio sessions and open-air film screenings.

Gate M West Bund Dream Center

Gate M West Bund Dream Center offers a lively mix of waterfront dining, entertainment, shopping, and sports.

Its summer program includes a South of France-style summer resort experience, waterfront World Cup screenings, riverside film events, music festivals, creative markets, and FISE action sports events. Some retailers have also extended their opening hours and are offering limited-time promotions.

Lujiazui Riverside-Super Brand Mall

The area is renowned for its iconic Huangpu River night views, combining riverside light installations with international dining options and connecting landmarks such as the Oriental Pearl Tower and Shanghai Ocean Aquarium.

In conjunction with the Asian Flavor Season, part of the Global Taste in Shanghai campaign launching in July, the area will introduce extended opening hours, late-night dining promotions, and free late-night parking. It will also feature street performers, live music, open-air film screenings, light shows, and immersive theater experiences.

Shanghai Ocean Aquarium is offering a "Sleeping with Sharks" overnight experience inside its underwater tunnel, while the Museum of Art Pudong is marking its fifth anniversary with themed lantern displays and light installations.

Yuyuan Garden area

The Yuyuan Garden area blends traditional Chinese aesthetics with collaborations involving popular characters and brands, intangible cultural heritage, anime-inspired culture, and traditional elements during its signature summer event, Guochao Fantasy Night.

More than 50 businesses are taking part in a "ticket stub plus" campaign spanning cinema, shopping, and dining. In collaboration with Bilibili, the area has launched a special garden fair featuring art installations, co-branded stores, and curated nighttime photo spots, inviting visitors to discover the area after dark.

Jing'an Joy City, Jing'an district

Jing'an Joy City's upgraded rooftop brings together dining, live performances, and a Ferris wheel attraction. The venue operates until 2 am and offers designated nighttime access routes and discounted off-peak parking.

It is designed as a youth-oriented destination that blends trendy dining, late-night socializing, and anime-inspired culture.

Global Harbor, Putuo district

Global Harbor is positioned as a one-stop nighttime destination for visitors of all ages.

It features late-night dining, including beer and crayfish festivals; live sports screenings of events such as the World Cup and Jiangsu Football City League; nighttime attractions, including horse-drawn carriage rides and observation deck views; and entertainment offerings such as concerts and themed pop-ups.

Daxue Road, Yangpu district

Daxue Road serves as a vibrant social hub for young people. It attracts nearby office workers, students, and entrepreneurs with its "coffee by day, drinks by night" lifestyle.

The area also features creative businesses and AI-related experiences. After dark, visitors can enjoy sports screenings, night markets, street food, and live music.

Seoul Night Market, Minhang district

Seoul Night Market features South Korean food, shopping, and lifestyle experiences, with some dining venues remaining open until 2 am.

The upgraded market also includes cultural and creative retail, leisure activities, and lifestyle services. Several South Korean brands have opened their first stores in China here, offering food, desserts, and beauty products.

Columbia Circle, Changning district

Columbia Circle offers a slower-paced nighttime experience centered on art, culture, and community life.

Visitors can enjoy immersive performances, craft markets, food and lifestyle products, and interactive activities. Ticket-stub benefits and shopping vouchers are also available at participating businesses.
