On the morning of November 28, the development of Chengdu International Aviation Hub welcomed a significant milestone, with its annual passenger throughput surpassing 80 million. Chengdu has secured its position as the third-largest aviation hub in the Chinese mainland and is now among the “Top 20 Global Aviation Metropolises”.
Statistics show that Chengdu ranked the third and the fifth nationwide in terms of air passenger throughput and cargo and mail throughput from January to October, 2024. The inbound and outbound passenger trips via airports in Chengdu doubled on a yearly basis to exceed 5 million as of November 19, 2024.
As of the end of October, 2024, Chengdu is operating 50 international and regional passenger routes and 33 cargo routes, and the city has been authorized to operate 16 international through-flight routes, and the airports in the city have achieved top transfer rates among airports in China, consolidating Chengdu’s status as a leading aviation hub in China.
News from official sources say that Sichuan Airlines has planned to start the flight from Chengdu to Madrid, Spain and extend the present Chengdu-Istanbul flight to Athens, Greece in the first half of next year, with four flights a week for the two routes. Meanwhile, the air company is to intensify flights to Melbourne, Australia, Sydney, Australia, Moscow, Russia and Phuket Island, Thailand.
