chengduWith the total number of trains operated on CHINA RAILWAY Express (Chengdu) exceeding 19,000 (as of October 15, 2025), the logistic cooperation between Chengdu and the Netherlands is evolving from corridor development to industrial synergy. On November 17, with support from the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Chengdu Municipality, Eric Spaans, Counselor for Infrastructure, Water Management, and Environment of the Embassy of the Netherlands in China, led a delegation of Dutch logistics enterprises to visit Chengdu. The delegation visited China Eastern Cold Chain Western China Fresh Food Port, Chengdu Shuangliu FTI Park Industrial Park, and Chengdu International Railway Port Exhibition Center, where the delegation engaged in pragmatic exchanges on economic & trade ties and logistic collaboration with relevant officials of Chengdu International Aviation Port Economic Development Zone and Chengdu International Railway Port Economic Development Zone, as well as representatives of key enterprises in the zones.
On the morning of November 17, the delegation first arrived in Chengdu Shuangliu District, where a Chengdu-Europe Industry Dialogue themed “Open Shuangliu, Linking the World” commenced. Representatives from nine Dutch enterprises and institutions specializing in logistics, commerce, and trade, including New Silk Way Logistics, Royal Den Hartogh Logistics, and Alblas International Logistics, engaged with representatives of eight local enterprises, including Chengdu Junjie Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., Sichuan Airlines Logistics Co., Ltd., and Sichuan Tongdao Technology Co., Ltd. Both sides shared their success stories and cooperation needs. “I have indeed identified cooperation opportunities for the accompanying Dutch companies, and they have discovered business potential here, too,” Eric Spaans noted.
Beyond the dialogue event, the delegation visited China Eastern Cold Chain Western China Fresh Food Port and Chengdu Shuangliu FTI Park Industrial Park. The members gained insights into the application of a high-standard intelligent management system in Chengdu’s logistics sector, as well as the system’s strengths in industrial clustering, policy support, and air-rail intermodal transportation.
On the afternoon of November 17, the delegation headed to Qingbaijiang District. During the “Qingbaijiang—Matchmaking Symposium for Commerce, Trade, and Logistics Sectors of the Netherlands”, representatives of Dutch enterprises engaged in in-depth discussions on deepening cooperation in CHINA RAILWAY Express and other areas with officials of the People’s Government of Qingbaijiang District and relevant departments, as well as representatives of enterprises in the district, such as Ronghe Group, Sichuan Port and Shipping Investment Group, and Chengdu Rongou Investment Development Group.
Additionally, the delegation visited Chengdu International Railway Port Exhibition Center, where they deepened their understanding of the port’s corridor development, strategic planning, and role as a land transportation hub, with particular attention to the operation of express lines from Chengdu to the Netherlands. The cooperation on express lines between Chengdu and the Netherlands began in June 2016 with the launch of the inaugural line from Chengdu to Tilburg, the Netherlands, which has since evolved into a stable, two-way service. Eric Spaans emphasized that CHINA RAILWAY Express has made significant contributions to enhancing economic and trade ties between China and the Netherlands. He shared that the Netherlands will bring more Dutch products back to China via return trains on CHINA RAILWAY Express to cater to both the entire Chinese market and specifically western China’s market.
The exchange has not only built a bridge for dialogue between logistics, commerce, and trade enterprises of Chengdu and the Netherlands but has also solidified the existing achievements in cooperation between CHINA RAILWAY Express (Chengdu) and the Netherlands. We hope that the exchange event can be an opportunity for Chengdu and the Netherlands to jointly explore avenues for innovating and upgrading the logistics sector and inject fresh impetus into the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
