The Past Five Years: Jiangyin's Urban Renewal and Upgrading!
JIANGYIN 2021—2026

People's city built by the people, for the people. Over the past five years, Jiangyin has consistently pursued the satisfaction of the people's growing needs for a better life as the fundamental goal of urban development. It has made coordinated efforts to promote urban-rural integration and organic renewal, continuously enhancing Jiangyin's city image and livability. A modern riverside garden city is rapidly transforming from a grand blueprint into tangible reality.
Old Granaries, New Life!
In the historically rich town of Xuxiake, the "Cangjian 1952" historical and cultural block is taking on new life. This old granary, steeped in the memories of its time, is about to be transformed into a "town living room" that bridges the past and the future after renovation. Centered on the Huangtang Grain Station built in 1952, the project innovatively adopts a "protective renovation + functional new construction" model. While carefully preserving historical textures such as silos and arched warehouse roofs, it cleverly integrates modern functions including community canteens, convenience markets, and cultural spaces, creating a composite public space that combines cultural heritage, community services, and commercial consumption.

Zhang Shaoquan, a villager from Renjiufang Village, remarked with emotion: "After the renovation, this place not only gives the elderly a nice leisure spot but also keeps our historical heritage alive." Zhou Feng, Director of the Rural Work and Construction Management Office of Xuxiake Town, introduced that the total floor area of the project is 14,000 square meters, including 2,000 square meters of renovated granaries that preserve the historical fabric and 12,000 square meters of newly built neighborhood convenience centers, achieving a perfect blend of historical preservation and functional enhancement. "It is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in October. Currently, the main structure is basically finished, and supporting outdoor facilities and interior decoration are being carried out simultaneously."

Upgrading Urban Quality
Over the past five years, Jiangyin has pressed the "fast-forward" button on urban renewal. With the completion of the municipal territorial spatial master plan, the "multi-plan integration" practical village planning has achieved full coverage, and 39 urban renewal zones are advancing in an orderly manner. The Guole Island has been completed and put into use, Zhongyi Street has reopened after renovation, the "Four Ring Roads" renovation has been fully completed, and a number of landscape parks such as the Xicheng Canal Park have been opened to the public. The city has built 1.48 million square meters of resettlement housing and renovated 3.209 million square meters of old residential communities; it has added 25,000 mu (approximately 1,667 hectares) of high-standard farmland, improved rural housing for 9,890 households, and 40 villages have been recognized as provincial-level livable, business-friendly, and beautiful villages. Jiangyin has successfully been designated as a provincial ecological garden city and approved as a provincial pilot for beautiful and livable city construction, with both urban and rural landscapes taking on a brand-new look.

The construction of major transportation infrastructure has injected strong momentum into urban development. With the opening of the Shanghai-Nanjing Yangtze River High-Speed Railway and the commissioning of Jiangyin Station, Jiangyin has officially entered the "high-speed rail era" and become fully integrated into the new pattern of integrated development in the Yangtze River Delta. The Wuxi-Jiangyin Rail Transit Line S1 has been put into operation, and projects such as the Yancheng-Taizhou-Xinghua-Changzhou-Yixing High-Speed Railway and the addition of a train stabling yard at Jiangyin High-Speed Railway Station are accelerating, advancing the integration of Wuxi and Jiangyin into a new phase of rail connectivity. The Jiangyin-Jingjiang Yangtze River Tunnel has been connected through, the Shanghai-Wuhan Expressway reconstruction and expansion project in the Jiangyin section is under accelerated construction, and a number of urban expressway reconstruction projects have been successively opened to traffic, with the "One Ring, Two Connections, Four Horizontals, Six Verticals" road network system becoming increasingly mature. Over the past five years, Jiangyin has added more than 57 kilometers of mainline and intercity railways, and a modern transportation system featuring "smooth internal connections, extensive external links, and three-dimensional convenience" is taking shape, providing solid support for the city's leap in overall capacity.

Today, the crisscrossing transportation arteries are making the city's pulse beat more strongly; urban renewal that blends the ancient and the modern is continuously awakening spatial vitality; and refined, warm urban governance is steadily nourishing people's lives. A modern riverside garden city—comprehensive in functions, outstanding in quality, and full of warmth—is responding with a progressively clearer, more vivid, and vibrant reality to the people's earnest expectations for a better life, while also laying a solid foundation for Jiangyin to achieve higher-quality development on its new journey.
