Located in the northwest of Hebei Province, Chongli is only 220 kilometers from Beijing, as a small county with a population of less than 130,000, it has a unique geographical location and climatic conditions, abundant snow in winter, snow storage period of more than 140 days. It is known as the “snow capital of China” and is also the most ideal skiing area in north China. With the hosting of the 24th winter Olympic Games in 2022, Chongli has captured the world’s attention with its reputation as “the city of winter Olympics”.
Chongli Located in the northwestern part of Hebei Province, Chongli District of Zhangjiakou City is located in the transitional zone between the Inner Mongolia Plateau and the North China Plain. It has a total area of 2,334 square kilometers and an elevation of 813 meters to 2,174 meters. It administers 406 natural villages in 211 administrative villages in 2 towns and 8 townships. The total population is 126,000.
Historical and cultural heritage is profound. Since ancient times, Chongli has been the place where diverse cultures such as Han, Mongolian, Hui and Manchu have converged. It has been named after the Confucian core idea of “advocating courtesy”. Surrounded by the Great Wall of Qin, Yan, Ming Dynasty and other different periods in the territory, Zhangku, which is also known as the Silk Road and the tea-horse ancient road, passes through Chongli, leaving behind rich monuments such as Taizi City, Xiangling Temple, Dongtu City, and Longshan Culture. In 1934, the Chongli Administrative Bureau was established. In 1936, Chongli was reorganized as a county. In January 2016, it was reorganized as a district.
