Pick Spring Tea on Tea Hills

A recent video of tea growers carrying spring tea to market has captured widespread attention online. Baskets of tender and fresh tea leaves picked before the Qingming Festival (Tomb-Sweeping Day) seem to carry the refreshing scent of spring tea through the screen.

Outside various teahouses across Chengdu, the eye-catching signs announcing “Spring Tea Available” attract numerous tea lovers and tourists eager to savor the taste.

Tea Picking

Pick a day, head to the tea hills, pick spring buds, learn the art of tea making, and savor the fresh taste of tea while enjoying a spring outing—this is how spring delights the senses.

Pujiang

As the “hometown of early spring tea in China”, vast tea gardens in Chengjia Township, Pujiang County benefit from the unique climate at 30° north latitude, which allows Pujiang Queshe, a specialty tea in Pujiang, to sprout with its first tender green shoots ahead of the season.

The preserved ancient Tea Horse Road here carries the flavors of history. The boundless sea of tea fields offers a breathtaking sight.

Dujiangyan

Covering an area of 1,200 mu, the Tea Creek Valley is located on Xiang’e Mountain in Puyang Sub-District. Embraced by mountains and winding creeks, the valley is dotted with the Tea Creek Corridor, the Temple of the Tea Sage, and hillside boardwalks, creating an immersive idyllic landscape.

Layers of tea trees stretch across the hills, filling the view with fresh greenery and every corner with a sense of natural tranquility and beauty.

Qionglai

As a place renowned for its tea production and the birthplace of Chinese dark tea, Jiaguan Township has a tea cultivation history dating back to the Qin and Han Dynasties. It once served as an important post along the ancient Tea Horse Road.

After tea picking, visitors can try the traditional tea-making process of “three rounds of roasting and three rounds of airing”, during which they can witness the remarkable transformation of tea leaves from fresh and grassy to rich and aromatic.

Chongzhou
