Double-decker Comes Back with a New Look on Sightseeing Routes

Jul 25, 2025

Chengdu

After years of absence, the iconic double-decker bus is making a grand return to the streets of Chengdu — this time with a brand-new “sky canopy” design and a new role as a night sightseeing vehicle.

To offer domestic and international tourists an immersive experience of Chengdu’s vibrant nightlife and rich culture, Chengdu Transport Group and Chengdu Culture and Tourism Group have jointly launched a double-decker night tour service. Connecting the city’s key attractions, these buses bring together the fashion and leisure of nighttime Chengdu, inviting travelers to explore the city through a unique "City Bus + City Walk" experience.
The service will be introduced during the World Games 2025 Chengdu (August 7–17), creating a brand-new cultural and tourism consumption scene for the event.
At dusk, under the iconic “I’m Here” art installation—a giant panda climbing a wall on Hongxing Road Pedestrian Street—a newly unveiled double-decker bus painted with panda-themed artwork quickly stole the spotlight. Equipped with professional guides, the bus offers live commentary at each stop, allowing passengers to explore the stories behind the landmarks and gain a deeper understanding of Chengdu’s rich cultural heritage.
