On the other end of the line was a foreign mother whose child fell ill suddenly. Unable to speak Chinese, she was very anxious. Sun Yushi quickly began communicating with her in English, patiently calming her while gathering key information.

Recalling the incident, Sun said at the time, she thought of using WeChat to obtain the exact location of the mother and her baby. "Once I got the address, I immediately dispatched an ambulance. The mother asked if she should wait outside, but I told her to stay at home and just leave the door open," said Sun, who also advised the mother on precautions to take while waiting for the ambulance. Thanks to the rapid response, the child's condition has been stabilized.According to Sun, she learned English mostly from school. But after becoming a medical dispatcher, she made use of her spare time to learn medical-related vocabulary to be prepared for emergencies like the recent one.
