Jimei Turtle Garden is a national 4A level tourist attraction located in Jimei District, Xiamen City. It covers Aoyuan, Tan Kah-Kee Memorial Museum, Mr. Tan Kah-Kee's former residence, Returning Garden, Returning Hall, Kah-Kee Park, Kah-Kee Cultural Square, and covers an area of approximately 185000 square meters. The scenic area is based on the rich "Jiageng Culture" and unique "Jiageng Architecture" landscape, vividly, comprehensively, and deeply showcasing Mr. Chen Jiageng's great life, demonstrating his spirit of hard work and self-improvement, his character of putting the country and the people first, his sincere concern for the construction of the motherland, and his dedication to the cause of education.
Turtle Garden was built in 1951 under the personal supervision of Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, showcasing his social education philosophy of "integrating education with tourism and entertainment". The stone carvings in Turtle Garden cover a wide range of content and are exquisitely crafted, known as the "encyclopedia" of stone carving. The "Jimei Liberation Monument" is currently the only known local liberation monument inscription written by Mao Zedong. Tan Kah-Kee Memorial Museum was completed and opened in 2008, vividly and realistically showcasing Tan Kah Kee's glorious life and positive impact on society. The former residence of Mr. Tan Kah-Kee was the place where Tan Kah-Kee and his younger brother Chen Jingxian worked and lived during their return to China. Currently, it showcases scenes such as Mr. Tan Kah-Kee's office, dormitory, dining room, conference room, and relic room, reflecting his patriotic sentiment of dedicating himself to the establishment of education and forgetting personal interests. The Returning Hall and Returning Garden embody Tan Kah-Kee's profound patriotism and selfless dedication. There is now a themed exhibition on "Tan Kah-Kee's Family traditions and family education", which closely combines traditional Chinese culture with family traditions and education, creating a patriotic place for overseas Chinese to seek roots and ancestors, and continue their bloodline.
The scenic area is a national demonstration base for patriotism education, a national base for patriotism education in primary and secondary schools, a national base for integrity education, a national base for social science popularization education, a national base for ideal and belief education for private economic personnel, a national civilized unit, a national key cultural relic protection unit, and a national defense education base in Fujian Province. It is a learning and tourism destination for Chinese and foreign tourists who combine education with tourism and entertainment.
