A Traveler's Guide to Sanxingdui Cultural Relics Exhibition

On June 27, the exhibition titled "Unveiling Sanxingdui of Ancient Shu Civilization" opened at Halls 1 and 2 of the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing (the East branch of the Capital Museum).

The exhibition comprises 265 artifacts connected to the ancient Shu civilization, and aims to unveil an enigmatic civilization to visitors progressively through three sections.
Anyone interested in finding out how the Sanxingdui archeological site was found can learn about the process at the "Discovering Sanxingdui" section.
Using artifacts unearthed at the Sanxingdui site and literary sources, the "Interpreting Sanxingdui" section explores the ancient Shu civilization's unique appeal and artistic accomplishments.
From a temporal and spatial perspective, the "Positioning Sanxingdui" section places Sanxingdui squarely within the cultural sequence in Sichuan Province and the diverse and unified Chinese civilization. This section aims to highlight Sanxingdui's distinctive significance and prominent role in relation to the evolution of Chinese culture.

This exhibition is co-organized by the Capital Museum, the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing, Sichuan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, Sanxingdui Museum in Guanghan, Sichuan, and Jinsha Site Museum in Chengdu, among others. It will run until October 10.

The organizing parties will jointly introduce various artistic products featuring the elements of Sanxingdui during the exhibition. These will include artworks derived from the cultural relics discovered at the Sanxingdui site, and everyday items that feature characteristics of the ancient Shu civilization.
Except for the "Wow! Sanxingdui" VR-based immersive show, the exhibition is free to all guests. No reservation is required. Visitors simply need to show valid identity documents for on-site verification and security checks before entering the museum.
