This September, the Shenzhen Concert Hall continues its public welfare performance series, treating audiences to majestic wind music, elegant piano ensembles, diverse chamber works, and a delightful light opera repertoire.

This Sunday, outstanding young pianists from the Shenzhen Piano Association, led by its chairperson Chen Lan, will present a "Beautiful Sunday" concert featuring timeless Chinese classics. Nearly twenty talented artists, including Chen Yuying, Hao Luyang, He Liyan, Huang Beike, and Jin Sheng, will perform beloved pieces such as “Ode to the Red Flag,” “Jasmine Flower,” “Hundreds of Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix,” “Silk Road,” and “My Motherland.”

Inspiring wind music

Under the baton of artistic director Fu Hu, the Wind Orchestra of the Shenzhen Association for Symphonic Bands will present a "Beautiful Sunday" concert showcasing both Chinese compositions and renowned Western works. The program includes James Barnes’ “Fourth Symphony, op. 103b” (“Yellowstone Portraits”), Carl Teike’s popular military march “Alte Kameraden” (“Old Comrades”), excerpts from Bedřich Smetana’s symphonic poem “Vltava,” as well as the Chinese classics “I Love You, China” and “In the Faraway Place.”

Afternoon Music Time

On Sept. 6, pianists Li Ang and Lin Ken, violinist Huang Jun, and horn player Han Xu will join forces for a chamber music concert. Their repertoire will include works by Richard Strauss, Chopin, and Bach, alongside classic film and television themes, concluding with the beloved Chinese folk melody “Liuyang River.”

On Sept. 20, guzheng performer Sha Lijing, pipa artist Fu Huaqiang, sopranos Zhi Hui and Wang Kun, and pianists Cui Yu and Chen Bei will present a selection of well-known Chinese works such as “Flute and Drum at Sunset,” “Butterfly Lovers,” “Cloud Palace Theme Song,” “Green Jade Table: Lantern Festival,” and “Ode to the Pear Blossom.”

On Sept. 27, baritone Liu Songhu and pianist Yuan Fangqixiong will collaborate with talented vocal students from the School of Music at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, at a light opera concert. The program will feature classic arias from “Die Fledermaus,” “The Land of Smiles,” “A Night in Venice,” and “The Merry Widow,” offering audiences a glimpse into the dazzling and romantic world of opera.Admission to the Afternoon Music Time concerts is free, but tickets are required.
