Du Fu Thatched Cottage was the former residence of Du Fu, a renowned Tang Dynasty poet, during his temporary stay in Chengdu. He lived here for nearly four years and composed more than 240 poems. Wei Zhuang, a late Tang Dynasty poet, rediscovered the remains of the thatched cottage and rebuilt the site for preservation. Since then, the cottage was renovated and expanded through the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties.

Today, it retains the architectural layout established after the renovations during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
