The Folk Musical Instrument

Exhibition Hall

of the Shenyang Conservatory

of Music (SYCM)

is now open to the public

free of charge.

SYCM's Folk Musical Instrument Exhibition Hall houses nearly 200 folk musical instruments across 120 categories. The exhibition hall is divided into four themed zones based on regional and ethnic characteristics, displaying the traditional musical instruments of the Han ethnic group and the distinctive musical instruments of the ethnic minorities in Northeast, Northwest and Southwest China.

Ranging from antique-style court musical instruments to primitive folk musical instruments popular among the general public, every physical exhibit is accompanied by graphic and textual introductions. They clearly trace the developmental context of Chinese multi-ethnic musical culture and fully showcase unique folk musical customs from various regions.

As one of the few professional exhibition halls dedicated to folk musical instruments in Northeast China, it houses rare and distinctive musical instruments including konghou, hujia, dungchen, ethnic waist bells and zhuagu. Every collection carries unique historical and folk stories behind it.

Multiple reservation channels have been launched by the SYCM. Visitors may fill in personal information and visit time via the WeChat official account of the SYCM, its official website, the WeChat official account of its library and the dedicated reservation mini program.

Tips: All visitors must complete online reservations in advance and present valid identification documents for verification and registration at the west gate of the campus before entry.
