Don't worry. You can apply for a temporary travel certificate by following these steps:
1. Go to the duty manager's desk at the airport (either Shanghai Pudong International Airport or Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport) and explain your situation.
2. Provide your name, passport number and flight details.
3. The airline will print out a copy of your ticket information.
4. Take this ticket confirmation copy to the airport police station to apply for a temporary travel certificate.
5. The police will issue a stamped temporary ID with your photo.
6. If you're unsure where the police station is or need assistance, you can call the airport's customer service:
Pudong airport: 96990
Hongqiao airport: 3253-1090
Additionally, if you have other valid identification – such as a diplomatic passport issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or a Chinese permanent residence card – you may be able to use those for your flight.
The temporary travel certificate is valid for 10 days, but specific rules may vary by airport. If your travel is delayed beyond this period, you'll need to reapply.
Important: This certificate is only valid for boarding a flight and cannot be used as identification for other purposes.
