Guangzhou Metro has introduced a dedicated passage designed specifically for children under 1.3 meters tall at Baiyun Park Station on Line 2. The new children's free passage, featuring a bright, colorful design, allows eligible children to pass through without tapping a card, providing a more convenient travel experience for families with young children.
This initiative aligns with the "Special Passageway for Free (Children Only)," which allows free rides for children under 1.3 meters tall or below compulsory school age (with valid ID). The Baiyun Park Station location was chosen due to its proximity to Guangzhou Children's Park, which attracts many young passengers.
Unlike regular ticket gates, this dedicated passage remains in a normally open mode. It features a low archway decorated with cartoon stickers of the metro's mascot, YOYO, and a height restriction sign. Clear directional signs and vibrant floor graphics guide children through the passage.
The launch is part of Guangzhou Metro's broader effort to build an age-friendly transit system. Several stations, including Baiyun Park, Yunxiao Road, and Zoo Station, have been adapted with child-friendly features like low-height service facilities and playful signage, reflecting a "view from one meter high" design philosophy.
