A report compiled by China Daily, Tsinghua University and Peking University recently included Xiamen in the group's annual Report on the International Communication Influence of Chinese Cities. The rankings assessed communication performance on five dimensions -- comprehensive exposure, media attention, online discussion volume, regional radiation influence and international reputation. A total of 12 cities made the list.
The report noted that the growing influence of cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Xiamen is shifting from traditional strengths like population size and economic scale toward urban characteristics, clear value propositions and strengthened global connectivity.
